eCommerce: How to Write a Successful Blog to Promote your Website

Writing blogs can be a daunting task. Especially considering how hard it is to keep a reader engaged. Yet, many blogs get posted daily garnering much traffic to websites. Blogs are key in gaining new website visitors, many of them later becoming customers.

A blog is ideal for growth, as it allows you to inform / educate your readers whilst also using subtle suggestions to keep the readers around for longer periods of time, and possibly even buy from your eCommerce site.

How do companies do this?

There are a number of ways that blog writers engage their audience, but there are a few key ideas I will discuss here with you today.

Why should you Optimise your Blogs?

The process of optimising your blog is not a difficult task, if you have the right knowledge. There are numerous subtle tips and tricks that you can use that would benefit your page.

If you are going to have a blog page, there is no point posting if your blogs are not up to standard with the rest of the web. People post engaging, helpful and informative blogs daily so you need to stand out to get people listening to what you have to say.

I am going to show you some written text from two blogs and I would like you to take a guess which one was more successful:

  1. Writing blogs can be a daunting task. Especially considering how hard it is to keep a reader engaged. Yet, many blogs get posted daily garnering much traffic to websites.
  2. Writing blogs is hard. Especially now how difficult it is to keep a reader on my page. But, many blogs are posted getting much traffic to websites.

You see how much better No.1 sounds? Most of the time, to keep a reader engaged you have to make the sentences flow correctly. The first text flows a lot better than the second one. The right words are used, including good sentence starter. Points like this all add up to how popular a blog can become.

How to Increase Traffic Using Blogs

You may already have used blogs before, or have a blog open on your website. However, you may not be an experienced writer, or have the knowledge to optimise your blogs. These are skills that should be mastered if you want to increase your website traffic.

A good blog consists of a strong start, and a strong finish. Using this formula, you can identify four key parts that a blog should contain:

Problem – Something that the reader wants to know, the reason they are on your site.

Promise – Showing why the reader should listen to you, and how your opinion is important.

Proof – Explaining to the reader how you can fix their problem, informing them in the process.

Proposal – A Call to Action (CTA) telling the reader what they should do next.

All these steps are important when writing a blog, as they go through periodically informing the reader, keeping them engaged the longest. If you were to explain the proof at the start of the blog, and then inform them on the problem last, the flow would not be right and the reader would not stay engaged.

Keywords are also important to a blog when trying to optimise traffic. Search engines work in a certain way in which they show websites relating to the keywords that people have searched for.

To optimise this, use keywords relating to your content in the blog, but also in the title of the blog and the meta-description, to get as many people interested as possible. However, do not over-do it. Using too many keywords can make the website seem too spam-like and can make the blog digress too much from the original point intended.
